The United States and the world are facing a perfect storm. Energy demand is expected to increase, while climate change, security of energy resources, and resource depletion impose huge challenges for the way we currently produce energy. The use of fossil fuels is getting more expensive and has tremendous environmental impact, which is not sustainable in the long term. If the causes for global climate change are not addressed, the consequences for the planet could be disastrous.
With this in mind, KiOR's mission is to create a new source of energy supply: one that is sustainable, environmental friendly, affordable, scalable and that leverages existing equipment and infrastructure.
Today, KiOR and its highly experienced and qualified team are developing Biomass Catalytic Cracking (BCC) , a novel catalytic process that leverages existing technology, along with novel, proprietary catalysts to convert biomass into a high quality “bio-crude” that can be used as a direct replacement for imported crude oil.
Implementation of KiOR’s proprietary BCC process has several major impacts that help mitigate the challenges of national security and climate change:
The subject of a Harvard Business School case and in the spotlight of several press releases, KiOR is a leader in the transition from a high-carbon to a low-carbon society, developing the technologies to supply the clean energy future.
